Rep Hockey is Surrey Minor Hockey's competitive program for players who are ready to take the next step in their development.

Players participate in evaluations and, if selected, compete against other associations while benefiting from enhanced coaching, higher levels of competition, and additional development opportunities.

Whether your family is new to Rep Hockey or returning for another season, here are answers to some of the most common questions about evaluations, player selection, expectations, and the competitive hockey experience.

  • Rep Hockey is designed for players who are eager to challenge themselves in a competitive environment and are committed to developing their skills. It requires a higher level of dedication, including additional practices, games, tournaments, and travel throughout the season.

  • Players registered with Surrey Minor Hockey in eligible divisions (U11–U18) may register for Rep Evaluations. Players must complete their regular season registration and pay the applicable Rep Tryout Fee before the registration deadline.

  • Players who are not selected for a Rep team will continue through Surrey Minor Hockey's recreational team placement process and will still have the opportunity to enjoy a fun, positive, and development-focused hockey season.

  • In addition to regular registration fees, Rep Hockey families should expect team-related expenses such as tournaments, additional practice ice, travel, apparel, and other team activities. These costs vary by team and division.

  • Players must wear full Hockey Canada approved equipment during all Rep Evaluation sessions and throughout the season. Mouthguards, neck guards, and other required safety equipment must comply with current Hockey Canada regulations.

  • Rep Evaluations are typically held before the start of the regular season. Evaluation schedules, locations, and player groupings will be posted on the Surrey Minor Hockey website once they become available.

  • Evaluation schedules, player groupings, updates, and other important Rep Hockey information will be posted on the appropriate division pages as they become available throughout the evaluation process.

  • If you have questions about Rep Hockey, player eligibility, evaluations, or the registration process, please contact the SMHA Registrar. For division-specific questions during the evaluation process, your division's coaching and evaluation team will provide additional information as it becomes available.
